How do I apply to the STEM Scholars Program?

How do I apply for a STEM Scholarship?
You must first apply to the STEM Scholars Program by completing the STEM Scholars Application form. If you meet the scholarship eligibility criteria, you will also be considered for a STEM Scholarship.

Can I apply for a STEM Scholarship without applying to the STEM Scholars Program?
No. You may only be considered for a STEM Scholarship if you apply to the STEM Scholars Program. In other words, participation in the STEM Scholars Program is a prerequisite for receiving a STEM Scholarship..

Can I apply to the STEM Scholars Program with applying for a STEM Scholarship?
Yes. If you do not need or do not qualify for financial aid, you can just apply to the STEM Scholars Program. The STEM Scholars Application form allows you to indicate so. However, it is highly recommended that you complete the FAFSA to determine your financial aid eligibility and hence be considered for a STEM Scholarship if you do qualify for financial aid.

How will I know if I have been admitted to the STEM Scholars Program and have been awarded a STEM Scholarship?
You will be notified in writing if you have been admitted to the STEM Scholars Program and, in addition, if you have been awarded a STEM Scholarship. You will be required to sign a contract indicating your commitment to the program.

Can a STEM Scholarship be renewed?
A Tenure Scholarship is renewable for up to three additional years as long as the scholarship recipient continues to meet the scholarship eligibility criteria and the academic performance requirements, and mandatory program elements of the STEM Scholars Program. An Annual Scholarship is not renewable. An Annual Scholarship recipient may re-apply but in competition with other Annual Scholarship applicants.

What happens to my membership in the STEM Scholars Program and my STEM Scholarship if I change my major?
If you switch to another STEM program, you remain a member of the STEM Scholars Program and will continue to receive your STEM Scholarship. If you switch to a non-STEM program, you will no longer be eligible to participate in the STEM Scholars Program and your STEM Scholarship will be discontinued.

What happens to my membership in the STEM Scholars Program and my STEM Scholarship if I become a part-time student?
If you become a part-time student, you will no longer be eligible to participate in the STEM Scholars Program and your STEM Scholarship will be discontinued.

Are there any academic performance requirements to maintain membership in the STEM Scholars Program and to continue to receive the STEM Scholarship?
Yes. You must be continuously enrolled as a full-time STEM student, receive a grade of C or better in all courses, and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. If you fail to meet these requirements, you will no longer be eligible to participate in the STEM Scholars Program and your STEM Scholarship will be discontinued.

Are there any other requirements to maintain my membership in the STEM Scholars Program and to continue to receive the STEM Scholarship?
Yes. You also must complete the mandatory program elements of the STEM Scholars Program. Failure to do so could result in your losing your membership in the program and termination of your scholarship.

How often should I complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)?
You should complete the FAFSA each year to receive any federal, state, or university financial assistance, including a STEM Scholarship.

Can I get other scholarships if I received a STEM Scholarship?
Yes. The STEM Scholarship does not disqualify you from obtaining other scholarships offered by the university,college, or department.

How might the STEM Scholarship affect my other financial aid?
If you receive a STEM Scholarship, there is a possibility that your loans and other federal funding might be reduced. Each recipient of federal student aid has a calculated financial need and the combination of all sources of aid cannot exceed this need figure.

Can I receive a STEM Scholarship during the summer?
No. The STEM Scholarship is only available for the fall and spring semesters.

Do I need to reapply to receive the STEM Scholarship for the spring semester?
No. The STEM Scholarship is awarded on a yearly basis (fall and spring).
